Whitening aftercare

What to do after your whitening to keep your smile bright and comfortable.

The first 24–48 hours

  • Avoid dark-staining foods and drinks: coffee, tea, red wine, curry, berries, soy sauce.
  • Rinse with water after meals; use a straw for cool drinks to minimize contact with teeth.
  • Use a sensitivity toothpaste (e.g., containing potassium nitrate) if you feel zingers.

Managing sensitivity

  • Mild sensitivity is common for 24–48 hours and should settle on its own.
  • Try a warm salt-water rinse once or twice to soothe your gums.
  • Switch to a soft-bristle brush and lukewarm water temporarily.

Keeping results longer

  • Limit frequent snacking on highly pigmented foods.
  • Maintain regular hygiene visits and daily flossing.
  • Ask your clinician about safe at-home top-up kits if needed.
