Whitening aftercare
What to do after your whitening to keep your smile bright and comfortable.
The first 24–48 hours
- Avoid dark-staining foods and drinks: coffee, tea, red wine, curry, berries, soy sauce.
- Rinse with water after meals; use a straw for cool drinks to minimize contact with teeth.
- Use a sensitivity toothpaste (e.g., containing potassium nitrate) if you feel zingers.
Managing sensitivity
- Mild sensitivity is common for 24–48 hours and should settle on its own.
- Try a warm salt-water rinse once or twice to soothe your gums.
- Switch to a soft-bristle brush and lukewarm water temporarily.
Keeping results longer
- Limit frequent snacking on highly pigmented foods.
- Maintain regular hygiene visits and daily flossing.
- Ask your clinician about safe at-home top-up kits if needed.
